I thought it was egg laying time so changed to layer pellets 4 days ago and my 17 wk. BOs still wont eat the stuff.

They free range severl hours a day and I have stoped giving them treats.

I added water and made a mash and tried hand feeding them but they wont have anything to do with it.

I dont want to waste a 50 lb bag of feed but I worry that my fussy girls will starve themselves.

Should I try mixing in non-medicated grower crumbles to get them interested again?

Sometimes chickens are afraid of new foods. Might take awhile for them to try it. Also free ranging may be filling them up. Mine don't always eat the pellets, just free range and vegetables. If they are hooked on crumbles, just crumble up the pellets, then you aren't wasting anything. Good luck.

Imp- I don't think they will starve themselves.

Normally, you start the layer pellets once they start laying, but they will probably do fine with t anyway. Don't worry. The chickens will start to eat it long before they are in jeopardy of starving. They'll get used to it.
