Wont lay?...

Yes, I am feeding them layer ration. I have been keeping various poultry for the past ten years, but never bought any from a swap like this. Actually, I bought five , 2.3, and so far the two roos have died and one of the hens. The guy I dont know at all, but he seemed very honest and straight forward, so I have no idea. These two seem fine. I put some garlic and a few drops of wazine in their water. I felt their chests and I didnt feel any yolks, so they may be spent I guess. This is really way too complicated for me to' deal with!

What is "wazine"? anything like "wazoo"? It's something my wife says on occasion. "oh go stick it in your wazoo". Maybe there related?

What color are their combs? Might just be a combination of the time of year and the stress of the move. Try to increase the protein in their food and see if that doesn't help them after a couple weeks. I am sure you will see eggs again shortly.

What did the others die from? Predator or disease? Sorry for the loss; hoping these girls will be right-as-rain in no time!!

Thanks. The others died of some sort of illness, one had an eye with a tear dripping from it and the next day that whole side of her face swelled up huge and she later died. The two roos just started looking bad, felt kindof empty/skinny, and acted weak for 3 days each and died. They are in a cage in my coop, my other birds are showing no signs of illness.

I live in KY as well and have three hens who aren't laying worth a hoot. Mine are 3 years old. I have a Black Australorp, who usually lays up a storm and she has already molted back in October, but hasn't laid in a month or so, an Americana, who hasn't molted at all and hasn't laid in over a year, and a little red one that I am not sure what she is, she is molting and isn't laying, she too last laid about a month ago.

We feed them Purina's Layena, a natural based feed that is 16% protein. We give them kitchen scraps such as lettuce, carrot peelings, apples, bread, etc.

They don't have any artificial lighting or heating but are allowed out from 7:30 am till dusk when they put themselves up and we lock their coop up. We haven't moved them and they are bedded down pretty much the same, a thick layer of shavings with hay added in the winter for warmth. They get fresh water daily and have access both in the coop and outside of it. No changes to flock either, though if they don't pick it up they are going to be sent to a retirement farm and replaced with girls that pull their weight.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

It may take a while for birds to adjust to their new environment. I wouldn't worry too much. They'll get settled in.

Ok. Gosh I hope that's all it is.

Loved, I would say put a light on them. Are any other hens that you have laying? Also, the australorp may be spent?

My 7 cochins were laying until last month,
now I havent had an egg since. so I added a 250 watt red heat blub
and red pepper flakes in their purina leyena feed they are a 1 1/2 yr.old
so we'll see what happens.
other hens with a heat lamp are laying 8--9 @ second day.
I have Silkies coming in to their own this month.
the roo used his voice today first time.
know they are good mothers but are they good layers anyone?
