Won't stop brooding going on six weeks!

it will be better when the new nest boxes come, then they will all have there own space to lay. golf balls in them to start them in new nests, and my pullets finding there own box to love

I have three birds that are always broody, they are going on 5 years (two) and 2 years - they are not dead, I do not remove them/ feed them extra, I let them do it themselves.

This is so helpful. I'm gonna leave her alone for awhile and quit worrying about it. THX!

I have been reading through this thread to see if I might gleen any information about my brooding hen. She is the runt of the flock and gets picked on no matter what. They have a community nesting box and the others are still laying in it with her there although maybe not as much. I am not sure if she is eating or not as I am not home most of the day to see if she goes out at times. She is still alive. I have tried separating her for several days and that did not seem to help. I will try again. It has been about three weeks so far. The eggs are not fertilized...I have no rooster. Any thoughts specific to this situation would be helpful. Thanks!

I have hen that just went broody with no eggs to sit on. She was laying good but them we lost our rooster and two other hens to coyotes (one of several assults) and I just moved the coop from our friends to our new place. it still needs work, a run etc.ANYWAY... I just ordered some new chicks (15) that should be ariving in a couple weeks. this would be very close to the 3 week incubation time. should I let her brood and then try to put her with the new chicks as mama? is that dangerous (of course it is, and needs to be supervised) but could that work? how would I orchestrate that arrival? would I put them all in a brooder box or a separate part of the run? I only have her and one other hen. Coyotes got the rest me flock.

I'm no expert, but I've had a few go broody on me this year. I just kick them out when I collect eggs. I tried putting ice under them and that didn't work. I tried moving them and that didn't work either. They are actually used to it by now. I tell them to go eat and they eat and drink and come back. No weight loss or anything, all seem well.
