Woo-hoo! DH gave me the OK to buy ducklings!

You can order from Ideal Hatchery. They just have a min. $25.00, not chick/duck min. Plus, you can order if you want Females (Pullets), Males, or Straight Run. They have Magpies, Runners, Blue Swedish, Buff Duck, Cayuga Duck, Crested Blue Swedish, Crested Buff, Crested Cayuga, Crested Fawn and White runner, Mallards, Khaki Campbell, Rouens, and Pekins.

Good Luck.

I want some runner ducks so bad they are a really cool looking breed and I could make allot of $ selling eggs here.

My girls and I raise ducks. We have Mandarins, White Calls, Anconas, Khaki Campbells and 1 Peking and 1 Cayuga. Of our larger ducks, the Peking is the most freindly. They were all raised the same and she still eats out of our hands. She also lays lots of eggs.

My favorite breed though is the Ancona just because it is so fun to see what we'll get when they hatch - where will the spots be, will it be black/ blue/ chocolate or lilac? They are great egg layers and good for meat.

We love the way we raise our large ducklings because it makes for very friendly, calm ducks. We keep them in a horse stall at the barn from day one. After the first 2 weeks of free feeding, they are fed ONLY out of our hands. We let them eat all they want 3 X daily. They have constant fresh water of course. Once they are 5 weeks old, we start walking them out to the barnyard for grass and a swim in a kiddie pool. Then back to the stall. They get into a routine of following you and coming to you for food. When they are fully feathered, they go out into the duck pen at night and are let loose on the farm all day. When I go down to the barn, the whole flock comes running to see what I might have and they happily trot right into their night time pen behind me. It is such fun.

Calls are certainly the cutest ducks, but they are very noisy and not at all friendly, though not as wild as the Mandarins. Our Calls and Mandarins are kept separate from the main flock since they can fly. They live in covered dog kennels inside the duck pen

Mine aren't laying yet - so if you need to "talk" someone into it - you have time.

Gotta feed the addiction ya know!

I have like 15 white runners in the bator right now - they are looking pretty good. Should be a good hatch.

Eventually I'll have blue swedish eggs. They're still too young but eventually.... I wonder if this has occurred to DH yet.....

All my ducks are verrry friendly and love to be petted, but my Ancona is a LAP duck!! hehe He loves to be picked up and put on my lap, where he will lay down and nibble on my clothes or look at my face while I pet him.
