SOOO excited!
Our bantams are 24 weeks old now, and have started laying!
1st- Fifi, our white silkie layed one... she AND Puff Daddy (her mate) were sitting on it... He wouldn't leave the nest!!!!

Then the next day-- Skooter, our itsy-bitsy OE hen laid one! It was the same size as the silkie egg!!!! Can't believe an egg that big came out of that poor little gal!!! We knew she was about to lay, since she kept "herding" golf-balls into her nest! LOL!

Then yesterday, Kashi, My Daughters spoiled-rotten Mille Fluer Cochin mix laid one too!!!

We're just waiting on Shadie (Black Silkie) and Lacey (Gold Seabright) But since Lacey is a bit--well-- 'retarded" both mentally and developmentally, she may not lay for a while- if at all (she never grew a comb at all!)

We Blew-out the eggs, labled the shells, and are displaying them in a small wicker basket .... dd want's to keep them... and can't say as I blame her! We were both so excited, beaming ear to ear and giggly--- she was in tears cuz her "babies" grew up!

WHAT DID Y'ALL DO WITH YOUR 1st EGGS?????

We took pics, posted on BYC, and then ate it. It was very tasty. I joked with my wife that it was a $300 egg, that's about how much we have invested in coop, equipment, and pullets. It had been a long time since I had a fresh farm egg. Now I enjoy them everyday. I have 8 pullets. As of yesterday, we have been getting 4 eggs/day. It won't be long and we should get 7-8 per day.

Goodluck and enjoy your fresh eggs!

Congrats on your first eggs! I still get excited when there is an egg in one of the nests! We have 6 layers and we never know how many we will get. Sometimes it's 1 and sometimes it's 5. I am waiting for a 6 egg day!
