woo hoo

She isn't going to sit on them fulltime until she's done laying the # of eggs she wants to brood. Since she lays one egg a day this could take her 10-14 days before she starts sitting on them fulltime. The eggs won't go bad in the meantime. The eggs won't begin to do anything until she sits on them non-stop. Trust her instincts. If what you want is little peeps, then let her do her thing. It'll be much easier for her than you. And, I wouldn't worry about the weather at this point as they'll be fully-feathered out by the time the real cold weather comes.

My 2 cents worth!

Found another egg laying on the stepping stone by the pool but the shell was really really thin so I threw it aay. What should I be feeding now?

Ok there are 5 eggs now. She has been turning them but I don't see her sitting on them very much. I live in Iowa and it is suppose to get cold tonight.... 37 degrees. What should I do or do I just leave them alone. I was wondering if I should but a heat lamp in there but I don't want to cook the eggs. Please help me...

mama knows what to do, she will probably sit on them through the night, My muscovy hen will lay her eggs leave them once in a while during the day but sit on them during the night. but your hen probably isn't through laying her clutch is why she isn't sitting on them yet.. They won't start to make ducklings till she is sitting 24/7. so it's up to you let mama do her think which is by instinct or take them and let someone else hatch them for you. It won't hurt them to be cold till they start incubating them.

Well we have 10 eggs now. The temp is suppose to it down to 45° . Should I be worried aboutt the eggs? I have not seen her sit on them that often. I know she turns them and covers them during the day. Should I be worried though about the night weather?

If she's sitting on them at night they should be fine. I'd worry more about the daytime temperatures but really it's better for them to be a little cool than too hot.

So my blue Swede keeps laying eggs but she only sits on them at night when I lock her and the other female in their house at night. She turns them during the day but she is not sitting on them all the time yet. I took the drake roeon and put him in a pen on the other side of the pen so they would not mate any more. But when is she going to start sitting all the time so the eggs will hatch?

You know how I said my rouen hen was not laying yet? Well she is now, and I though she was broody, she was turning the eggs, but not sitting. I dont think your girl has enough eggs for her. Oh and make sure you let her and the drake together once aday. Just to make sure the eggs will stay fertile.
