Wood ash for odor control

I have been experimenting with using the duck coop as a compost heap. They seem to be turning peeling and such into dirt much faster than my compost bin. I had some cold wood ash that I usually put in the compost bin and I thought I would sprinkle it around their coop. To my surprise the duck coop smell disappeared. I am very happy with this finding and thought I would pass it on.
