Jumping in on this, would I lay the paper towels on top of the shavings, am I reading that right? I was looking at their bedding today when I changed it, we having 20 brooding and I would be changing bedding 2x a day to stay ontop of it!

Yeah I only have three in a med dog crate brooder and I have to change theirs twice a day too! That is why I gave up on the idea of having shavings all over their floor.

I put long strips of paper towels in the bottom and then twice a day I just roll it up in one piece and lay new down (no shavings underneath). Takes all of a minute or so to do. The chicks even cooperate by running to the back as I roll it up so I don't have to remove them every time. They have a little box with shavings in for nesting, it is easy to dump the little box and shavings once a day and throw in a few more handfuls.
