Wood Chips Sourcing & Mites

Wow, here I was wishing our newly obtained (shredded maybe a week ago?) wood chips were fresher but it turns out even older might be better. Scraping the top of the pile, thin layers, good stuff to know. Thank you everyone for this thread.

I used bags of the better homes and gardens natural wood chips for our quail....still signs of mites . Now what to get rid of them?

Wood chips don't ring mites in.

Start a new thread in the 'pests' forum to find out what to do about mites in the coop.

Actually I did thank you very much. I posted because we are constantly fighting mites, and wondering HOW TO TREAT THE MULCH? We can treat the plastic and the sand and the birds....how do we treat the wood mulch?

You don't. If you think there's so many mites that they're now hanging out in the mulch, I would remove it and burn it.
