Wood Pellets for bedding?

Quote:
Yes, but buying them in bulk from the feed store is always cheaper!!

The reverse is also true - many people on here use "horse bedding" pine pellets in the litterbox because it's a just cheper version of the same thing.

They don't put what type of wood on the bag. But it's like plywood or composit. I started using it during the rainy season and it's great. However, if you live somewhere hot I wouldn't recommend. The heat dries the pellets and they turn into powder and it gets everywhere it stuffs your nose and burns your eyes. My chickens do not mind at all the bathe in the dust and lay in it to cool off.

Does it say on the bag what kind of wood they are made from? Does it matter, as long as it isn't cedar?

Thankyou![/QUOTE]

I was going to try wood pellets for the brooder this year, but the stock was depleted near me. I think I would have liked it much better than the Timothy grass I used instead of wood chips. Google says they are usually made from fir, alder, and pine, with very little cedar. Wow, this is an old thread.
