Over two months ago we found an injured wood pigeon on a dog walk. It had a lot of injuries, mostly to it's left wing...a huge, deep hole that went almost all the way through, the underside was shredded all the way down etc.
We weren't sure he'd make it, but he's fully healed now and doing really well! He still can't fly though.
We're fairly experienced with poultry - I kept chickens for a decade, we've had quail and had Muscovy ducks for a few years, so we're happy to keep him if he can't be released. But other than hand feeding pigeons in the park, we're new to pigeon ownership!
Ideally I'd love to find another disabled pigeon to pair him up with!
The main confusion is when providing him with a companion - would it need to be a wood pigeon specifically??
Also I'm not certain if he actually is a male - he's shown little interest in his mirror but has very occasionally called. I'm assuming pigeons need to be kept in m/f pairs, but is there an easy way to tell if he is a male?
