Just want to share with everyone the sealant that we used for our coop. After reading all the labels at are local Lowes and Home Depot I was scared to have the chicken or my daughter come in contact with that on a daily basis. We needed to seal the wood so we found a brand that was not only non-toxic but had great reviews. I purchased the product and was skeptical because it was rather thin, but put 2 coats on the coop and it has worked great. We decided to use it on our new fencing as well and it has been great at repelling the sprinkler water for the last 3 months. Anyway, so here is the picture of the can and we found it on Amazon. It is 38$ a gallon, but we used half a gallon on our coop doing 2 coats. It also works well in a sprayer.

We searched quite a bit an were surprised that there was only one kind out there. Two coats gives a little bit of a satin look. We got our coop from Tractor supply and the coat of paint on it was pretty thin, so if it was going to last we needed to seal the wood. I have to admit reading all those can labels it is a wonder why half that stuff is even used. The cancer warnings were crazy!
