Wood Shavings

Is it ok to put maple or Oak shavings inside the coop that I will grind up myself. what other kind of woods can I grind up to put in the coop.

No its that's a no no. You will find discussion on the board about pine and cedar, and that;s all it is discussions. Oak shavings will make your birds sick, please google and do the research , I am behind in my work or I would do it for you. I have posted the research on this board before but it was over a year ago I think.

I have been using oak shavings for almost a year now and have had no problems. I didn't research it but my results have been OK to date.

I've read where some different shavings mess up the chickens respitory track but I'm not sure what kind

I have a small cabinet shop. I put in what ever comes out of the planer as long as it was whole sound wood. Never a problem.

Cedar is what screws up chickens.

Ok I take it back, my memory isn't what it use to be , it was hay that carries the harmful spores and molds. I had the time to research it.

Yep its cedar thats susposed to cause problems. Other than that its fine.
