Those are very good-looking coops! Perhaps you could also offer to sell the plans for others to build it themselves. Some people here could not afford to buy a pre-made coop, others just like to build their own themselves. But they might still be interested in buying plans so they don't have to figure out the measurements by themselves.

I wish you great success!

Wendy,

There might be a market if you can ship it in the form of a kit. You build what can be shipped flat and include bolts & washers or whatever to put the pieces together, along with detailed assembly instructions.

I know lots of city-dwellers who don't really have the skills, tools, or workspace to do even a coop-size construction project. If they want to keep chickens (and who would not want to keep chickens!) then a coop like yours, reasonably priced and easy for them to assemble, would be a huge help. Maybe you could sell it through the feed stores where beginners (like me!) often buy their first chicks.

Good luck with your business.

Wendy,

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about shipping products to the US, but I just had to tell you that your coops are beautiful! My hens would be extremely happy in one of them.

Good luck!

I would love one too, I agree I have bought a dog kennel....now being used as a chicken coop while I attempt to build a real coop...it was flat in 2 boxes so shipping was not bad. A company I bought this through was doghouses.com and they are a subsidery of netshops.com which has many imports of kits for outdoor items. If shipping is reasonable I'll take one.

My guess is shipping from china to the US for a pre assembled coop of that size will easily be in the hundreds (200-500) even by 6-8 week ship type shipping if in bulk. Shipping a 4 foot by 4 foot by 1 foot box just 3000 miles across the US cost me nearly $100. An assemble at home type or just coop plans may be better shipping wise.

I think the reason the OP is trying to test the market for her coops is because of such things like the eglu, henspa, and so on, which are small coops that come with hefty price tags. Many of us on here are do it your self types and will take the time to build things from the ground up, but with $700 eglus still selling, it's a niche market.

As for the silkies, they are the black skin chicken, or black bone chicken used in medicinal soups believed to be healthy for the body. My mom would turn all my girls in to soup if I let her.

Wendy, those are beautiful coops! I would buy plans if you had them available--heck, I might try and make my own plans if you didn't make them available. . . . I wonder how many coops my dh will let me get away with--is three enough, four? hmmmm

That is one beautiful coop Wendy! I have to say though that selling directly into the US market might be a challenge because US consumers are not at all familiar with import laws and regulations. For example, most people have no idea what FOB even means.

Is anybody in this forum make chicken coop by themself?

Yes, many of us make our own coops or coops from plans. Yours are beautiful, good luck.

Wendypets,
try this site, it is british/UK, click on forums and maybe you can get some help there, I also agree that maybe selling the plans maybe more beneficial but I am not a business person so I dont really know, also I have never been to mainland china but have been to hong kong mamy times and it is absolutely one of the most interesting cities in the world! good luck!
