The two chickens that are laying of the ten I had started laying in the boxes I provided. Well, actually they are two modified plastic milk crates. I wanted for there to be good air circulation what with the hot weather we are having in southeast Louisiana so I cut out an opening on one side of two plastic milk crates. Anyway, they were layin in the crates and then started laying on the ground. Then they started to bury the eggs with dirt and cut grass I put in and change weekly. For a couple of days I thought they had quit laying then I spotted one egg peeping from under the grass. Every time I went to check for eggs, it turned into an Easter Egg hunt.
So, I began looking for wooden eggs to put in the nesting boxes.(Golf balls did NOT work. Lol....)Online I found the wooden eggs but, I didn't need a whole dozen. I finally found some for $.79 @ at Michael's craft stores. Now, at least two eggs so far have come for the nesting box instead of beneath the dirt and grass. Problem solved!
