Woods on Wheels- update- *added more photos**

I have been searching for over a month for an inexpensive utility trailer to convert into a chicken coop.....as it will allow me the opportunity to have chickens....therefore making it my dream coop! Shared my whole story in a nut shell in a previous post.

That's looking good, WoodsOnWheels. Using the trailer ramps for the open front is genius. Should be VERY easy to clean out. I don't think you will have to worry about ANY predators, getting through that. I don't even think you will even need a pop-door, Just lower one of the ramps. You guys knocked the heck out of the build time, 6 hours!!! It took me almost 3 mos from start to finish. Well done. Looking forward to more pics.

Yay! I also completely understand your situation. Nearest Mickey d's is 15 miles away. We live in the center of 300 undeveloped acres but on an 8.5 acre plot. I wanna say that 4 of those are on a ravine or steep hill.

. The other suitable spots for this style coop- has to face southeast -ish, are either too close to the property line or too close to the well. Meh. This makes life so much easier.

And JackE! I love "Woods on Wheels", can I steal it for the title of my byc coop page? About that construction time- hubby and his buddy are VERY familiar with building, and own lots of power tools. it took them another Day to put roofing paper on and frame out the windows and apply hardware cloth. It's going to take a while to complete details like roosting bars and nestboxes.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if you have to do the multi-level roof (not sure what to call it) on the woods style coops? I want to do a coop like this but my boyfriend (who will do the bulk of the building) is resisting the extra work for that style of roof. He's an excellent carpenter but doesn't see the point I guess. I love the look, but is there another reason for the roof to be that way that might be more convincing than it looks cool?

If you go to two (or so) posts under my original post, you will see a link to JackE's coop thread. Somewhere in there, page 5 I think? there is a link to the free version of the book in pdf format. It talks about why the building is shaped the way it is- it's an airflow thing. I read the pdf and ended up buying the one on amazon. I like to have a book in my hand. There are also plans in it.
