It’s finally here!! They drove through some very heavy rains and crazy winds to get it here so it needs some cleanup but my gosh it’s gorgeous! The trailer they brought it on was like something out of a transformers movie, they were able to place it just where we wanted it...which I certainly didn’t think would be easy. I tried to post a video but it said it was too large, it really was so cool to see!

So nice

Put the video on utube and Link it here

Power lines are down everywhere, I was so scared a tree would fall on our coop last night!! I’ve got the baby chicks in a box near the coal stove, if anyone has any pointers for caring for them without power I’m all ears! I don’t think we will have power for a few days

Great resources thank you! They are between 3-7 weeks old. I’m thinking about heading to the store to grab a generator if there’s any left?!
They might be fine at 'room temp' near the stove.
Can you heat rice bags or rocks on coal stove?
Wrapped in towels that might help.
Good Luck!

ETA: here's another idea:
Make them a 'huddle box', put it in the brooder after turning off the heat(you might have to 'persuade' them to use it) then move it out to the coop with them.

Cardboard box with a bottom a little bigger than what they need to cuddle next to each other without piling and tall enough for them to stand in.

Cut an opening on one side a couple inches from bottom and big enough for 2-3 of them to go thru at once.

Fill the bottom with some pine shavings an inch or so deep.

This will give them a cozy place to sleep/rest, block any drafts and help hold their body heat in.
