Woods-style house in the winter

Pics
Used to see this design many years ago. Great job. And thanks for the book thread, downloaded it.

QUestion-- I'm wondering if I can put in extra windows. THe interior seems dark. Can I put in more windows on the west side, and possibly the north as the sun sets far to the NW by late June.

( My structure faces east = open front faces east)

I don't see why not.

I would assume the lack of windows is because this design was made back around 1905 or so when windows would have been a little bit of a premium for people.

As long as it is a good sealing window you could put one on each wall?

I will be building on in the next month. I plan on using a door with a window on the one side and a big window on the back side that will face West.

As long as they can be closed in winter, when the real effect of a Woods is needed...

.......tho being open on the east instead of the south defeats the whole design concept.

How big are the upper (Monitor) windows on your coop? How big are the rest of the windows? Is the coop sitting under a bunch of trees? My coop is flooded with light. There is not a dark spot in it, during the day. Not even a shadow. Maybe, you could paint the inside white to help reflect the light in there. But, if you have too, go ahead and add windows if needed.

I think for some like me the design to face the open part east has to do with the prevailing winds. I will be at the foot of some rolling hills. So my wind will be predominantly west to east.

I think the idea of more windows is a good thing. Just not the opening type. Just panes of glass to let light in. They may be Dinosaurs but they are not cave dwellers LOL
