Getting closer to moving my flock to their new house!

I am officially intrigued. Posting to subscribe and find my place later. I have read through page 30.

I have guineas in the incubator, and since I have been reading they need separate housing from the chickens, I am considering the hubs to build one of these for me. I am not certain it will work since the location I want to put it has some plum bushes to the south that may block some of that natural light, but I am hoping the cold hardiness of the Guineas I will still be able to handle it.

Thanks for all the info, BEAUTIFUL coop! Sure makes me feel better about my fairly open coop. I feel like if I can block the wind, they will be okay. Kind of the same way I feel about my horses, although the equines get to wear blankets of course, my "original babies...It is ungodly cold here in western NC, record cold. Yay... not!

Thanks for posting all of the information on this thread! I am going home tonight and taking the acrylic panel off of the front window of my coop so my girls can breathe!!! the back and three sides are buttoned up- so I am hoping for a similar condition of the woods style open air.

A friend gave me a link to this site and I just registered to be part of this. He also shared your pics of this chicken house, I love it! So how do I get my hands on blue prints, I am by no means a carpenter, so I will have to seek help. But if I could get some numbers that would be great. My wife and kids are hoping to get our chickens started this spring/summer.

Thanks

First of all Foghorn Tim.....

Congrats on your decision to raise chickens! The coop in this forum is an older design called the open air coop. As posted in the link above by utard you will find plenty of information on this type of design and ventilation. As for other coop designs similar to the one that I posted above, a lot of information can be found on this site. My coop was inspired by the Wichita Cabin Coop- see links below for more info

Good luck!
