Woods-style house in the winter

Maybe this is dumb, but I'm wondering about how to situate my future coop:

Why do the coops almost always sit up on cinderblocks? Do predators go under there all night bothering the chickens? Do big windy storms threaten to blow the coop off the cinderblocks?

Hello to all , I am so excited about this Wood-style coop . Just got the Fresh-Air Poulty House book . I asked my husband if he would build it for me and he said " If you have the money honey I have the time " What do you suppose he mean't by that ? He loves to build things so here hoping !

Well, I think my dream has just come true. I was waffling about which coop to have, woods style or chicken tractor? It turns out I can have both!

. Hubby reminded me that he has a brimar trailer that he has for sale at the local trailor place. He used it for work but the lights don't work. Enough other stuff wrong with it so he bought a newer one. It measures roughly 8x16 with a screen style fold down ramp. We were thinking of building the open front/window end facing the hitch so we could back it into place easily.

The problem is: do we still have enough space to put a door on the other end where the roosts are if we make the coop deeper? There is a railing around the trailer. We still plan to have a window where the door is on the original plans, and we plan to make it a tightly sealed door for winter. I ordered 15 birds. I am expecting i wont have 15 with a few losses though. Hm. We'll figure it out and post pics!

That is an interesting design. I have a coop design in my head but lack the funds to get started. I guess I have time to redesign that plan. Craigslist here in East Texas costs more than Lowes or Home Depot!!!!!!

That's good to know....if I ever get to build a new coop from scratch. I like to plan it in my dreams.

Looks great! Smart move to add the large overhang on the front considering the PNW wet weather. Kudos to you!
