I'm ashamed to say that although I was 17 yr. old.........I NEVER heard of it until it was way history. Now....they're showing the 40th anniversary and I don't recognize a thing.

I never did drugs. I liked Peter, Paul and Mary....John Denver....even the Carpenters. Not to mention Dionne Warwick and a few other has beens or now dead people.

I got married and had kids in the right order.....sheesh....I must have been the 60's version of a NERD.

Must have been my Catholic upbringing.

I did enjoy a beer though. In those days you could go to a teenage bar and drink beer and dance with your sweetheart.

DH even admits he never heard of it until it was way over.

Was I a NERD?

You weren't a nerd. Just an average American kid! The problem is you never hear about the average American kid. You only hear about the extreme cases, because that's what sells. I was not around then, but I grew up pretty much the same as you, and I would not have been interested in Woodstock.

Did you grow up in Arkansas? DH did. I grew up part-time in Miami, Florida and part-time in Asheville, NC. When I start talking about things I did in my teens, DH is like huh?
I do think he had the better growing up though.

I grew up in Kenosha Wisconsin........right smack dab between Chicago and Milwaukee.

Now that I have oldsheimers it's hard for total recall. But I remember going to the hs football games with my 1st string ( OOOHHHHh) boyfriend and just hanging out with my bell bottom hip huggers and body shirts. I was thinner then, LOL.

Edited to add that my first car was a 65 Rambler Classic stick shift on the column and I thought I was in heaven until I replaced it with my 70 fiat spider convertible.

I grew up in Southern NY and didn't know that it was even happening until the incredible traffic/chaos hit the airwave...40 years ago. I don't think I was a nerd, but I had to work and was way too busy to have been able to take the time off to go to such an event. Guess I wasn't a free spirit like some - and the whole drug thing would have scared me.

I definitely like the music from some of the bands who played at Woodstock, but not all.

ps. I think that the media is playing up this 40th anniversary cause they've got nothing else news worthy.

I saw more rock concerts in a month than my DH has seen in his whole life. My b/f and my big brother were heavy into rock music. The only one I didn't enjoy was Frank Zappa. My brother took me to that one. Ol' Frank was just a little too out there for my taste.
My clothing choices were corduroys and t-shirts, always with a flannel shirt over my t-shirt (in Miami!).
