I live in the southern hemisphere, and today, the shortest day of the year, all of our hens who are currently laying decided to lay, without any artificial lighting! They get lots of bugs and slugs and sunflower seeds and oatmeal and lentilly leftovers, in addition to their balanced feed. Happy, healthy and extremely willing chickens! I have one hen in the middle of a big moult, and so she isn't laying, and 3 pullets who haven't started yet, but I'm hoping they will soon now that we've past the solstice. I'm just thrilled that all 8 layers laid on the darkest day of the year!
