Very nice job on that project! Inlaws are in Mesa at the moment, and our boys will be there shortly. We have to deal with cold, so we insulate. How do you deal with the heat? Lots of shade?

The inlaws have a park model in a large circular development there, and I really enjoyed the California quail that hung out around the two pools.

I'll lend you two boys to help in a week.

Hah! I have two of my own that have been very instrumental in the project, or something and we've had a friend over to help them.

cute boys! looks like fun.

please make sure that you close and lock up the chickens at night since your run is chicken wire. I'm not sure that you can keep out the digging preds with only cinder blocks, but if the chooks are tucked into bed at night they'll be out of sight/out of mind. And city preds are less likely a threat during daylight hours.

Your construction looks great and I like the red run. Looking forward to watching the progress!

PS - ASU grad here. Sometimes miss that AZ warmth alot....

I'm in the middle of the city my only threats are my dogs, cats and birds of prey. The whole thing will be roofed and wire to the top, that should take care of the cats and birds. My dogs keep the cats out of the yard as well. My dogs have never been diggers so I'm hoping that that will continue to be the case, the only one that has ever dug is already over the chickens and the one that is still interested in them has never dug. I debated using hardware cloth but I decided that in my situation the cost outweighed the benefit,we'll see.

You know It's freaking beautiful here right now, although it has been a really wet spring (for us).

Hi Joel, I really like that design. Did you attach the coop to those cement blocks in some way? I have about a bazillion of those blocks that came with our new house, and would love to find a good use for them.

I didn't attach it to the blocks, I figure that it should weigh enough when it's done that that won't be a problem but if needed I have a couple boxes of tapcons that I'll sink into them.
