working on our homemade bator!!!!!!!!

Ok got everything running. It has been on for about 12 hrs my temp is staying from 100 to 101.3 is that temp to high or is it ok. The humidity is staying at 53 to 55 percent not sure on that part we have heard so many different numbers to keep humidity please someone give us a temp and humidity number that we can look to as a target so we can get everything dialed in.

Did you calibrate your hydrometer? Mine was off by -5%.

Different ppl have different preferences...some use the method of hatching with humidity and some use the dry hatch method. I add water and keep my humidity level at 47-50% until lockdown and then raise it up to 70% the last 3 days of incubation during lockdown.

yeah I got it its about 3 off I made up for it. It reads 50 to 52 on it so I just added 3 to what it reads. So my humidity needs to be a bit lower right now? What about my temp?

thanks for all the info gonna get the humidity down a bit still need to cut some vent holes so that should help. Temp is still holding within 1 degree. We took a egg and blew it out and put some lotion in it and put the probe in it and that is what we have staying at a constant temp.

i believe we've got it!! I think we are ready to set in some eggs. we have everything on the incubator complete!! we can get the wiggler to stay between 99.5-101 without major fluctuations and humidity stays steady as well in and around the 50's. I am watching it all day today to see how things go. and then I think I will be ready to set some eggs in!! I will post pictures of it soon

the sinkobator thermostat is what worked for me BUT instead of taking it apart i just slowly and carefully drilled three holes in the black plastic part of the thermostat and i have about .5 degree difference. also you might try to put a couple of heat sinks in there to help hold temp. i use 1 quart glass jars and it really helps steady the temps. i am using a little dorm refrigerator as a base so it is greatly insulated. One other thing that made a huge difference is i put my incubator in my spare room in my house where the temp only changes about a degree or two, when i had it in the house garage i had a hard time getting the temps to hold. good luck and keep us posted.

I have 3 babyfood jars full of water and a pint mason jar (all with lids in tact) and that has helped keep it regulated. unfortunately the only spare room we have is the cluttered den that doesn't heat up AT ALL so we still need to figure out exactly where it will go. I am thinking of our half bath, because the temp stays pretty constant in there and I think i have enough room to get it in there.

actually the toilet is in need of minor repair so it isn't used frequently. unless i need to primp and do my hair lol. and the cat uses it because we have her food and litter box in there. but even with the door open constantly, it stays pretty constant in there.
