working with electric netting

I'd like to set up some electric netteing in my yard to keep the girls from destroying the planters and garden. I'll be taking it down to mow the yard but, otherwise, it'll be up the rest of the time so the chooks can free range. What are some concerns I should be aware of? Any advice/suggestions are welcome, thanks

I use the netting from Premier. Probably one of the best things I have done for my birds. Really, if you are only trying to keep the chickens out of a garden area, you don't really need electronet. The electronet is for keeping the chickens safe from predators. I believe Premier has netting that is not electrified, to keep chickens out of an area available. But if you do decide to go with the electric kind, I can give you a couple tips I use with mine. Since you are going to be regularly taking down the fence and mowing, the fence grounding out from deep grass should not be a problem for you. One thing to look for when you set the fence up, is to check and make sure the lower electrified strand does not get caught under the fiberglass post and lay on the metal ground spike at the bottom. That will partially ground out and weaken the fence's charge. Also, since you are putting the fence in the same spot, you could hammer in your ground rods, leave them there, and then use an alligator clip to quickly hook up your charger to ground. You could use one of those bigger alligator clips, like you see on a car battery charger. You can get the clips at just about any auto parts store.
