Can I give my chickens Tylan 50 (orally) at the same time as Ivermectin (also orally)? Can ducks have Tylan 50 and Ivermectin too or just chickens? Also, do I have to start with Wazine if I think it might be a gapeworm issue or can I just skip straight to the Ivermectin?

Thanks!

What exactly are you trying to treat? Usually you don't try to do 2 meds at once, but if you tell us what it is you are trying to do someone may know of a med that will do both for you, or at least which of the ailments needs top priority!

:)

Never mix different medications/wormers/vitamins/ACV etc...together, the results could possibly be damaging to their system or worse.
I know nothing about ducks. I recommend worming first with valbazen liquid/cattle sheep wormer or safeguard liquid goat wormer. I dont recommend using wazine, only as a last resort. Then wait about 1 month, then treat with tylan 50.

I have a gurgling hen who was exposed to something by a new chicken. The previous owner of the new chicken knows his flock is sick but he doesn't know with what and he suggested we treat with the Tylan. I only got my chickens back on Sunday (my chickens were being kept by a friend of mine) so I don't know if the gurgling hen lost weight because of illness, worms, etc but I do know she is thinner than she was before she left her a couple months ago. She is acting fine but her breathing (both inhaling and exhaling) sound like boiling water....very icky. I was hoping to treat with the Tylan in case of a respiratory illness and the Ivermectin in case of gapeworms because I am honestly not sure which it is. I will try the q-tip trick before worming but with the chickens grazing in the horse pasture I am sure they have been exposed to enough to warrant a good worming, gapeworm or not.

I seriously doubt it's gapeworm, the hen would be dead by now if it were. You are most likely dealing with a respiratory disease and it's contageous. Dont let that sick bird get anywhere near your flock. I recommend that you cull the sick bird and disinfect the feeder/ waterer etc...

All of my birds are in together, they were all put in together about 2 weeks ago. We have a small flock, 8 birds, but they came from a place with about 40-50 birds on Sunday.

I don't have any control over my friends flock but is it possible to treat my 8 birds and just never bring them anywhere, sell them or add new birds? I really don't want to cull all of them :-(

The birds that are showing symptoms of respiratory disease can be treated with tylan 50 injectable given orally or by injection. You will need a need a syringe with needle to draw the tylan from the bottle. Dosage orally is 1/2cc for standard size birds once a day for 5 days. If injecting, it's 1/2cc into the breast just under the skin once a day for 3 days. Rotate breast injection sites each day.
You will have to maintain a closed flock. No new ones in, none out, no selling eggs for hatching purposes because some respiratory diseases can be transmitted through the eggs.

Thanks for the advice! Do you know if the chickens could pass the respiratory illness to ducks?

I would really love to know what my hen has because she started in with the gurgling (rales) yesterday morning and is still having that issue but there is nothing else wrong, her eyes look fine, no drainage from her nose, she is eating, drinking and pooping fine. I checked the rest of my flock and they are all fine so I don't know what would just cause gurgling.

I dont know if respiratory diseases can be passed from chickens to ducks.
As far as the gurgling goes with no other symptoms, is it possible she could have something stuck in her throat? If so, give her an eyedropperful or two of olive oil orally. Then gently massage her throat in a downward motion to her crop. She will either pass or puke whatever is stuck if that's what it is. Dont turn her upside down.
