I set up a Worm Factory about a year ago that I bought from Jim's Worm Farm. It's worked well and been no trouble at all to maintain - no noise, no odor, very small footprint, just throw scraps, grass/leaves, paper such as toilet rolls and coffee grounds in and they thrive. It's based on a rotating tray system and at present I have 2 trays of beautiful black compost, 1 tray that the worms are vacating (they migrate upward through holes to the top tray once you start feeding only in it), and the fourth tray is filling with worms. The third tray still contains eggs that will hatch and wiggle up to the food trray, too. It's a nice set up and honestly you forget it's there except throwing food in about once a week.
With gardening season beginning, the two bottom compost trays will be used soon and it just keeps rotating upward!
