Worm Farm advice

I am going to start a worm farm for my chickens. I have questions on how many needed:

- If I am giving a chick 3 worms per day, how many worms do I start off with to keep worms readily available?

My Math:

- 3 per day x 60 days (my understanding of the amount of time to double the population of the worm farm)= 180x9 chicks= 1620 worms. 2000 seems to be the number I am looking at to buy.

Am I missing calculating?

Since you are also feeding them chicken feed I think that one worm per day if sufficient.

Which raises another question. If I am giving them feed, what protein % feed should that be considering the worms?

Well, you'd have to consider the dry weight of the worm. When my chickens aren't foraging, like in winter, I give them hamburger bits. In the summer they find their own worms. I would not worry about it. They will balance it out on their own.
