I’ve found out my chickens have tapeworms.. 🤮 I’ve seen the segments in their poop and it’s pretty gross so.. what sort of wormers can I use for them? If there are any ones you can administer to their water that’d be even better! We once tried calling a vet for their help but wouldn’t give us any medications we could just pick up over phone.. they told us we needed to bring a sample in to see what worm it was even though with all our experience with tapeworms in dogs and cats in the past we already knew what our chickens had.. there was even a simple confirmation with a quick google search on what they had too so.. the vet didn’t help and the folks didn’t wanna have a however much vet bill for one chicken.. so here I am..

The infestation doesn’t seem like it’s bad bad but I could be wrong for the past few days I’ve been seeing the segments in their droppings so better be safe than sorry

You'll need to purchase Equimax equine paste at a feed store and give it to your birds infected with tapeworms. The praziquantel in the paste will kill the tapeworms.
Equimax dosage is 0.15ml given orally for a 5 pound hen. Or 0.03ml per pound of weight. Redose orally again in 10 days.
It must be given orally, not in water.

I see! I’ve heard of this one but again haven’t so I’ll check and see if any of my stores carries it

So I didn’t look for that paste but the only thing one of my stores had was poultry wormer 5x it has the same ingredient as safeguard and it’s a capsule... it says one capsule per bird but I’ve been attempting to try giving the contents of said capsules into the water.. since nobody was letting me give them a capsule! So far I haven’t noticed any changes worms I still do indeed see, maybe I’m just doing it wrong? I also now noticed one of my girls has roundworms too! :hit Maybe I’ll try giving them the stuff again but idk :(

Edit I went ahead and gave 3 of the hens I knew had worms a full pill coated in olive oil.. let’s hope they work this time I looked at the bottle and it said contents aren’t water soluable so no wonder! Guess I should double check before I do something

Can you post a photo of the bottle?
I've dealt with tapeworms in poultry many times. Safeguard was the one of the first products that I used years ago and it was ineffective.
I then used Valbazen with success. However, over the years I experienced resistance from the tapeworms dosing with the Valbazen. I switched to both Zimecterin Gold and Equimax equine paste wormers and they both eliminated tapeworms very effectively, and they both are still effective in treating tapeworms.
