I am 3 months into chicken keeping and my first set of birds were polish hens. I’ve since then got 3 Easter eggers and some month old silkies. They all have started sneezing for the last month to two months and I thought for sure one of the Easter eggers might have had mareks. I’ve lost 3 polish hens now in a weeks time and they had signs of a vitamin deficiency. I seen no signs of any kind of disease, they didn’t sneeze but they did loose balance and get curly toe paralysis. All birds are vaccinated. Lethargy and weight loss kicked in after the limping and loss of balance. The original polish acted like she was hurt, but the others who exhibited her same behavior died shortly after being close to her. I had seen a streak of blood in the original hurt hens poop just before she passed yesterday.
Today I was watching the hens free range and checking fecal matter because I’m getting concerned and found worms in one of the Polish hens. I only have 2 left. I’m wondering if I can get help with finding out what worms these are and how I can go about treating them. Should I treat all the birds? I have not found lice/mites on any of them but should I treat for that too just in case? I have not been able to find a vet to help nor do I have the money to bring and test all my hens/chicks. The Polish in question are a little over 3 months old.
I do keep on top of poop removal, I keep living quarters clean, I use diatomaceous earth and the big girls dirt bathe, I have a spray that you can use on them to keep mites/lice off them and I do that once a month and spray living area once a week. I keep a fan on them most of the day as well. The worms had to have been from the flies that I can not get rid of no matter how hard I try!
