Worm Prevention and Treatment?

Here is another article talking about DE being effective against internal parasites.

So, if you're looking for a natural way to fight intestinal parasites, diatomaceous earth may be worth a try. It's cheap and easy to use and has been shown in studies to be effective against many types of parasites. Feb 22, 2023

Getting rid of intestinal parasites with diatomaceous earth

Here is some more info from across the web.

3. Helps in the Fight Against Parasites

Diatomaceous earth can assist in the fight against dangerous parasites. The composition and low density of this product are ideal for killing and flushing parasites from your body, with smaller intestinal parasites removed directly and larger parasites in the digestive tract chopped up before being flushed out. Due to the small size of the silica in diatomaceous earth, this material will not harm your beneficial gut bacteria. Diatomaceous earth has already been used for a long time to treat parasites in livestock and pets, with high-grade materials proving just as beneficial for controlling parasites in humans. According to a study published in the Oxford Journal of Poultry Science, diatomaceous earth has the potential to be an effective long-term treatment for parasite control and elimination (5).

These are not people trying to sell anything, they are just recommending what worked for them. You can look it up on Google, and it will give you an answer. More people side with DE than not.

Getting rid of intestinal parasites with diatomaceous earth

An article by people trying to sell you their products, they aren't researchers or scientists or even basing their statements on research by scientists. Just parroting the same misinformation that gets spread around "because 'they' said so".
They're con artists.
More people than not believe it works because A. They're gullible and will believe anything they read or see. B. They believe natural is synonymous with safe, which is false. C. They don't do any real research beside Google it, which isn't real research by any definition. t all winter researching natural anthelmintics and Diotomaeceous earth isn't effective for internal parasites at all and barely effective against endoparasites.

I can tell you from years of experience that DE dosent work. It is ineffective when wet. It is wet inside the chickens innards.
You are new to chicken keeping and new folks always go the natural route when first starting out. They soon realize that DE is ineffective in treating external parasites and internal parasites.
We've all been there. You'll learn eventually, probably the hard way when you lose a chicken to parasites.

There is a world of difference between trying for good gut health and dealing with a parasite overload. There is research showing that pumpkin seeds have what, if one reads the research carefully, is a mild anti parasite effect. What pumpkin seeds won't deal with is a critacal worm load, or even a mild infestation.

I'm going to join the others and tell you that DE is not going to deal with a worm overload.
You can test for yourself if you are prepared to send poop samples to your local lab. Send them a sample. Then treat with DE. Then send another sample. You do not have to take anyones word, no matter how much experience or knowledge they have, although it would seem rather pointless looking for advice here if one doesn't take the advice given.

As far as Curcurbitin (sp) as a dewormer, particularly pumpkin seeds, isnt a natural wormer after all:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...ctive-against-worms-and-parasites/6508822001/

Even if it were, the pumpkin seeds would need to be crushed in order to release the curcurbitin and a chicken would have to eat a truckload of them in order to have an effect.
X2
pumpkin seeds do have mild anthelmintic properties BUT they also contain high amounts of antinutritional qualities, in the amounts required to cause the mildly (read barely) effective worming, the chickens system would shut down from nutrition deficiency. Not worth worming a dead bird.

All chickens will have some worms, the problem starts when they overwhelm the birds system. It's best not to treat unless you can confirm a high level of worms from a fecal float or checking droppings or if you live in wet climate, where wirms ate prevelant, you can worm once a year if you see issues
I’d love to know what you suggest using. I am only worried about one of my young chickens that has continual yellow foamy poop- I have already treated them for coccidiosis just in case, that was about a month ago.

Are you sure it's not Cecal poops with gas? How old is the bird?

It definitely could be… I saw it a few weeks ago and didn’t notice it for a while now it’s coming back… they are still on medicated chick starter… They are 13 weeks old. I may be giving them too much black soldier fly larva treats
