Hello my advisors, I got ready to do the surgery on my RIR. Said a prayer that I would have steady hands and got her ready. The circle looked like it was even closer to the surface than before. Skin looking really thin. So I just took the toothpick and got it out! No knife necessaryIt does look like an ingrown feather shaft. I've encountered these from time to time in my flock because I handle all my chickens a lot. They can be painful depending where they are on the body. They are just under the very thin outer layer of skin. Taking a razor blade or Xacto knife, make a little nick in the skin right over the feather, use a toothpick or tweezers to free it, and it will pop out. Use a little wound ointment on the cut, and it's all good.
