Worm? What kind?

I have used corid twice so far.... My chicks are about 6 and 4 wks..... I was using 1tsp per gallon....I've started them back on medicated food but had to use non medicated bc I just finished dosing them Monday..... They've never been in grass so I'm thinking it isn't worms... But the symptoms sound like worms when you read up on it....like the poo being sticky and foul.... A lot of diseases mimick others it seems and it gets confusing...

Okay. They don't need to be wormed at that age. Was the Corid 20% powder or 9.6% liquid at 1 tsp per gallon? I have found that preventative dosing of water instead of medicated feed works best. I begin at about 3 weeks of age, dosing water for 5 days in a row, every three weeks. After the last day of corid, I then supplement water with vitamins, minerals and probiotics for 3 days. There is a preventative dose to assist with immunity, and there is a treatment dose if there are symptoms. The proper amount must be used in order for it to be effective, so let me know whether it was the powder or the liquid so there's no confusion.

Thank

Thank you for info... It was the liquid... So I should start over? I'm very new to this and it's hard for me to put any kind of vitamin in their mouths or anything else.... I used polyvisol in water... I also feed yogurt.. And I'm feeding ff and dry food ... If I'm doing the ff correct they should be getting beneficial probiotics correct?

Thank

Stop the fermented feed if that is what you mean by ff. That is likely causing the digestive problems. Feed a balanced starter/grower feed that is not medicated. Do not give yogurt since the calcium content is too high for chicks. Use a vitamin, mineral, and probiotic formulated for poultry, not Polyvisol. Avian Super Pack is a proper vitamin supplement. Probios is a proper probiotic supplement. Both are a dispersible powders to be used in waterers and have an excellent absorption rate. If you have Corid 9.6% liquid, the 1tsp per gallon dose is the correct preventative dose. Years ago I began using Corid as I stated in the previous post. I do it up until at least 7 months of age. I haven't lost a bird to Coccidiosis since.

Ok I'll get the powdered vitamins and use those.... I have some powdered probiotics .. I'll continue with the non medicated food... And I'll use corid every 3weeks for 5 days? What age can i start back with the fermented food? Can I feed them fruit and spinach and oats still? I haven't fed any treats this week just a few oats...

Chicks require a well balanced feed at such a fast growth rate. I don't give darn what people say chicks get in nature when raised by a mother hen. If they had such a great survival rate out in the elements, then we would leave it to that, and wouldn't raise them in brooders. this pertains to us providing the food. When we feed chicks other treats and foods that interrupt the absorption of required nutrients, we stunt growth, and invite other potential problems. Oats are a good source of protein, hulls are good for feathers, but soaked oats, or too much can promote diarrhea and be lacking in nutrients they benefit from in a well formulated diet. Below is an example of a well formulated chick starter that will provide good development to maturity. I have raised chicks on this diet and they grew with great vitality. I don't work for or have stock with this company, lol. I just appreciate a well formulated feed.

I'm looking for something more on the organic side our town just doesn't offer organic.. . I will search for that brand... Thank you for all the info, maybe now I can get them straightend out... :)

You're welcome, birdlady. I have observed the stock feeds carried by TSC. Nothing but junk. Their main brand, Dumor, has been on the recall list more than once, likely due to foreign, low quality ingredients. Dumor is owned by Land O' Lakes which owns Purina. A local vet has treated numerous dogs for Clostridium infections, some which died, due to treats containing chicken from China. These treats were labeled as Made in USA. It is a shame how much homework must be done these days in order to avoid poisons in our food.

King Feeds (L.A. Hearne) is a California based company, so I doubt you'll find it in your area. Ask folks in your area and you may be able to find something of comparable quality. Good luck.
