Wormer for ducks

So what kind of wormer do people use? and how old when you first start worming them?

I have not used wormers yet. My ducks are 2.5 years old, and have shown no signs of having parasites. I have brought a few of my ducks in from time to time for other things, and the vet has not been concerned, either.

I was just wondering since they'll be feeding. On lots of slugs and snails someone said to worm them every 6 months or so...

There are a number of different philosophies about worming. I tend to be on the less medication side of the spectrum.

I live in an area that has a pretty vicious kind of tapeworm, and poop samples at the vet have shown that my birds do pick it up. So I worm the ducks every 6 months with a tablet wormer that covers tapeworm, on the advice of my vet. Plus, I am pretty pro-medication (but not as a substitute for getting all the basic health care right - like a clean environment, clean water, good food, and a happy life).

Most birds will have some kind of parasite load but if it is low level and they are otherwise healthy, stress free and well fed they usually don't have a problem with it.

This makes sense. So Cbrock2 you may want to have a fecal test done to see what you may be dealing with, and get the wormer best suited for your area.

I found one wormer, all organic, so no chemicals, it is good for their whole immune system as well... Were going organic all the way... I'll look up the name if anyone has heard of it
