My vet mentioned a sick chicken she saw and asked the owners if it had been wormed. Is this necessary and what kind of wormer is used, and where would I get it?

Some people don't deworm until they see worms. I've talked to my vet and he said to deworm the chickens 4 times a year ( according to where you live) there is different types of dewormers out there, check at your feed store.

I have found the chicken has to be pretty close to death before you see worms in the poop(the only worms I have actually seen coming out of a chicken were ones that vacated a almost dead bird...... yuck)

I generally deworm the whole flock whenever I see either a slightly lethargic bird, or pick-up 2-3 of my birds and even tho they look and act healthy they are lighter then they are supposed to be.

what are people using to deworm poultry now that wazine no longer available?
Thanks
