In the old days some farmers used chewing tobacco to worm their animals. It too is toxic, and guess what it doesn't kill worms. There are many "folk remedies"' that people ascribe to, it doesn't mean there is one once of benefit in them, it is just what some people do. Is it wrong, well maybe not, unless you consider neglecting the health and welfare of the goat important. Will it continue, sure, just like some people bury a dish wrag under the back steps to get rid of warts. You'll never convince those folks there is a better way.
Now for a little FYI, Hoeggers has an herbal wormer, and they swear by it, but IF you do the reasearch, you will find Hoeggers is owned by two women, and their support of the herbal wormer is based upon the benefits in their limited herds.
If I didn't want to use chemical wormers, I would not worm at all. It will take 10+ years, and many deaths, but after 5-7 generations you will see a more parasite resistant herd.
