Worming peafowl

Is the dosage for valbazen (adult peas) the same as safeguard?

One vet said that it's 20 mg/kg (0.18 ml per kg), but one of my books says that its 50 mg/kg to treat capillary worms. Both say just one day and repeat in 10. Another source says that it has to be given for 3 days to treat gapeworms.

Kathy,
Is Valbazen water soluble?

Not sure per bird, I know a pen of 7ea adult peas goes through approx 1gl a day right now and more as the summer kicks in.

Really??? Mine don't drink much more than an ounce or so per day, many of them less. Guess that is a benefit to feeding a wet mash, forced hydration.

At the moment I am treating with Corid, it is so simple in the mash. I start with water in my bucket and figure that the birds need 0.70 ml per bird. For the fifty birds I need to treat I add 35 ml of Corid to the water and add my ingredients, the medicated water is absorbed into the feed. That feed is put out in the morning in a sufficent amount that they have hours to eat it so no one misses getting the full dose of medication. Of course knowing how much they will eat per day is a necessary first step.

So if you put four ml in a gallon of water and all seven birds drank that gallon in one day, they got about 60% of the amount they needed. If you put seven ml in that gallon, and IF they drink all of it, they then got enough medication for it to work.

Thank you Kingbee and Kathy,

How much do you think they drink in a day?

These 7 peas, how many boys, how many girls? My adult girls weigh 4 kg,the boys 6kg.

Weight of flock in kg, times 20 mg/kg, divide by 113.6 = number of ml's of Valbazen needed in one day. Would be best to consult with a vet to confirm what the most effective albendazole dose is, 'cause I suspect that it might be 50 mg/kg, not 20 mg/kg.
