worming questions

I never can figure out where to ask certain questions so if this is wrong, I'm sorry.

Wormed my chickens today for the first time. Now I have two chics that are a month old. Do they get wormed too?

And I have eleven guineas that are six weeks old. Do they get wormed?

IMO a month old chick won't need worming. Pick up the worming for those chicks at your next cycle, or worm the pullets when they are 16-weeks old or so.

After speaking to several people, I'm not worming my guineas.


YUK! BLECH! VOMIT...........GAG! I wormed my chickens yesterday. One run had good poop. The coop looked fine. Scraped it, cleaned it and sprayed it. HOWEVER, the other side had worms. Not everyone in that side had them as I saw some poop that looked fine. But someone has it bad. They were everywhere. I have a weak stomach so I'm suprised I haven't gagged. I got them out, cleaned and cleaned. Scraped, cleaned and sprayed. I suppose I'll do it again tomorrow. Discovered in the process our coop wasn't big enough. I'm 45 years old and had back surgery last year. I need a walk in coop. This one is large, but my husband built it to where you have to bend over. One of my hens in that run has a pasty butt. Do you reckon she is the wormed one?

I will worm them again in 14 days. Is there anything else I'm suppose to do besides scrub myself with clorox, vomit and complain?

I would worm all the chickens if you haven't done it yet. Do your guineas go into the coop with the chickens?

I wormed all the chickens yesterday. And the guineas are still in their own kennel. I haven't let them out yet to roam.

Sorry it was awful for you---but it was good for that chicken.

I have always wondered if just one can get it. I think actually if one has it, they all have it...and the infestation has to be pretty "bad" for there to be enough round worms to see them in poop.

I actually saw worms in poo from one of mine...and I had wormed her before she began to lay. Live and squirming. ICK. It seems everyone in my flock is better off now wormed, and the eggs are bigger and chickens seem to be eating less. (not sharing with worms).

You did the right thing...it will all get easier. In a year...it will all be second nature to you. At first it is freaky. Congratulations on overcoming that hurdle. :O)

Thank you. I think the worms were having a party. There was poop in the same run that was fine. I wonder if she came to me sick. I'll clean it up again tomorrow. Do I do anything else? I'm still letting them out to free range. Is that okay?

Yes, I would think that there is no way to keep chickens 100% away from the bugs that transmit the worm eggs, like grasshoppers and earthworms. - a 'hopper could easily fly in the run. Now that you are eradicating the worms....your chickens can have fun fun fun.

I remember that I did have a DE shaker and I did shake the DE on piles of poo the first time I encountered worms. Mine had round worms, gape worms and one even had eyeworms.. which is why I decided a regular worming program was in order. Other than DE, I think just keep a schedule.

Poop today had worms in it, but they were not moving. That made me happy.
