Worming with garlic

Quote:
This helps as a preventative, but will NOT get rid of a worm infestation. Careful about doing it too often......I've read posts about the eggs starting to taste funny if you do it too often. lol

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I talked to my hatchery lady before I left town.. She said her daughter was more knowledgeable about worming and all that jazz. And conviently she was out of the store at that moment. She said she wasn't too sure on DE either, even though some swear by it. She doesn't like the fact that you and your chickies can aspirate it, causing a whole new set of problems..

Anyways, we got back into town tonight, and Pea seems perfectly fine. I checked her poo, nothing. Bright eyed, and bushy tailed. I woke her up, and she seemed happy to see me, wouldn't get off my arm and back for a good ten minutes

She didn't lay while I was gone, but she looks as if she's starting a molt. Which was expected, she's about 9 months now.

So again, thanks for all the info, and glad it can help out some other people too

I personally have used garlic for dewormig for many years and have always found it useful. I have never had a bird die from worms. Also i give out lots of cucumbers that also deworm as well and is a great treat in 95° weather!

For what it's worth, I'll throw this in. I picked up 6 silkie cross hens at an auction, and once I got them home I noticed their poop was FULL of worms.

They didn't seem listless or sickly, so I figured instead of a wormer I'd try a recipe I heard about. I added some acv, chopped fresh garlic, cayenne pepper, and oregano to their water. It has now been 8 days since I started this and I am no longer seeing any worms. I'm not sure if this merely reduced the number of worms or eradicated them entirely. All 6 hens are laying now, and when I first got them only 2 were laying, so something must have changed.

Can you tell me how much of each ingredient you used? I'd like to give this to my chickens as a preventative. I'm giving ACV in their water daily.

Cool. A number of people also use Diatomaceous earth to prevent worms, and some swear that it will cure them. My experience is that while it helps, it won't keep a chicken wormed completely. The Wazine is safe for humans, even if the container will say not to eat the eggs for 2 weeks. I know members that eat the eggs without any problems, and they are very health conscious. Just Google it and you should be able to make an informed decision.
The problem with DE is once it is wet it is useless. It won’t help with worms at all
