I wanted to start the transition to the organic layer food as my girls are 7 weeks old now and I thought I would mix some into the chick starter.

I opened the bag for the first time and it is full of worms and moths.

Suggestions?

7 weeks is way to young to switch to layer feed. The extra calcium is not good for a growing chick. Do not start layer feed until they are 20 weeks old or actually start laying.

Take it back for a refund or exchange.

I just called MPC about it. It was layer developer and it is recommended for chicks starting at 8 weeks. The customer service lady Stephanie was GREAT!!!! and she is looking into sending me a new bag. I am still a newbie - I knew the name had layer in it but this is developer which she explained is the right stuff to give them from 8-18 weeks before they eat regular layer food and oyster shell. I guess it is like grower food.

The bug thing grossed me out.

I didn't want my girls to become ill and I was not sure they would appreciate the "creamy filling bits"

They eat other bugs so I could be wrong.

I am tossing this stuff.

It isn't so much even the bugs as it is that the condition in which the feed was kept, allowing bugs, means that the vitamins and nutrients in the feed are likely degraded to worthless.

Hey you got free bugs/treats for your girls!!!

Cool!!! Some people have to pay for that
