~*Sweet Cheeks*~ :
SHOOT - A lot of us PAY for worms to feed to our chickens.
If you didn't kill all of them, take a picture so we can help identify.
Chickens LOVE worms. I pay $2.99 for 50 small meal worms at
Petsmart and collect all the earth worms I find to feed to my babies.
try
www.grubco.com they might have mealys cheaper
they are actually easy to raise too
take a clear plastic tub with a lid...like shoe box size..drill a whole bunch of little holes in the lid for air
put starter crumbles in the bottom of tub about half inch worth
take an apple or potato and slice it in half length wise and put it cut side up in crumbles
take a piece of newspaper half the size of your tub and lay it on top of crumbles before you put potato or apple in
the newspaper is for cover and the apple/potato is for hydration for mealys/adult beetles
when your mealys go into larvae mode put about 20-30 in the new starter box you just made
they will eventually turn into adult beetles...they will mate...then they will die...then in a few days you will see baby mealys squiggling all around the bottom of the box
once the mealys get a little bit bigger you can put the box in fridge..they will not die but go dormant so they will not mature into beetles so fast..
you can keep breeding and raising mealys after this...heck..you can have a mealy farm year round if you have a place to keep them indoors during winter months..then your chickys will be happy!!
Happy Mealy Farmin!!
Uhh Oh...another addiction!!
