WORMS causing rasping breath, bloody diarrhea in chicks?

I would not worry about 12 day old chicks having worms.
Like @dawg53 said above...this is NOT a roundworm.

Oops! Sorry! To clarify, the chicks are 4 1/2 weeks old. They've been in that run for about 12 days, though, which is long enough for immature worms to be present, and they do quite a bit of damage.

I was actually wondering about my classification earlier today, so I checked out this page: http://www.differencebetween.info/difference-between-earthworm-tapeworm-and-roundworm and it didn't help. I wish I had preserved it so I could look at its texture more closely and check for segmentation, because that picture isn't quite clear to me. But enough of you are on this bandwagon that I'm going to call it a day!

You dont need to worm chicks at 4 1/2 weeks old. I start worming chicks at 6 weeks old mainly due to our warm and wet environment. If you want to worm them at 6 weeks old, use wazine. Dosage is one ounce per gallon of water for one day only. You can make the one gallon mixture, then put it in their waterers. Put it out first thing in the morning before they feed. The treated water has to be their only source of water to drink during the day. Then discard it when they go to sleep for the night. Then put out fresh clean water for them for the next day.

I've dealt with tapeworms many times. I can assure you THAT earthworm is NOT a tapeworm. Be happy that it isnt a tapeworm!

If your waterer sits on the ground, the earthworms will live under it, no matter how dry the soil seems. Best place for me to find them before I go fishing is in the grooves of a small rubber welcome mat under my duck waterer! Cha-Ching!
