Worms- deadly?

OK so after I found out that our Red Star pullets/hens have what seems to be roundworms, I have been really worried; especially because Cinnamon, my beloved Red Star pullet, has them.

We are currently looking to buy DE or something, but I have no idea how long my poor girl has had the nasty worms.

Are roundworms deadly? Can they actually kill a chicken? If so, how long does it take? I'm afraid that something might happen to Cinnamon if she has had them for a long time.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

(1 first I would wonder how you know they are wormy?
(2 i would go to the feed store and buy wazine or pepperzine for round worms
(3 yes chickens can be hatched with round worms as the adults are wormy
(4 try and do this worming now don't put it off
You have to use chemical wormer to do this
(A the chickens body is full of the worms in the gut but first you have to
(B kill the worm larvea in the blood stream
(C then the body will need the food grade DE to knick the adult worms in the gut
they then degydrate and die and the chickens body uses the worms for protein

so do as I tell you and get the worming situation under control

(5 how did you know they have round worms?

Good info there. As far as treatment i would go for the wazine, just hold off on eating the eggs for about 2 weeks. I just wormed my flock with wazine with no nasty side effects

Yes, that's why the other poster recommended not using the eggs for a 2 week withdrawal period. Toss any eggs laid during that time, and you should be fine.

Instead of wasting the eggs, can we make them into scrambled eggs and feed them to our chickens? Or would that be adding to their Wazine intake?

how would i know if my chickens have worms?

Sometimes they can be seen in the poo, but the best way is to have a poo sample tested.
