Worms! How young can they eat 'em?

I know there're risks to letting your birds eat ANY uncontrolled/not commercial food like wild bugs and stuff, but sometimes I wonder if some people wouldn't just feel better if they locked their chickens into sterile padded rooms.

I have a compost bin that I am growing worms for my chicks. That way I know what goes in it and I am sure that it is safe.
