I just saw a worm in one of my leghorns poop. She has been lethargic and has lost weight and stopped laying eggs, and we thought she was egg bound. We have never wormed our chickens before. I just ordered Valbazen from Walmart. I couldn't find it anywhere else. It will take about three days to get here. Will my chicken be ok until then? Is there anything I can do to help her until the valbazen gets here? Please help

try feeding her 1 broken-up tums pill every morning. that will help her feel a bit better and get things moving faster until the meds come. good luck :hugs

I don't have any tums pills but I just gave her some pellets with apple cider vinegar water. she seemed to like it but she wont drink much water even though it is pretty warm outside.

You can give her one drop of Poultry Nutri Drench orally twice a day until you get the Valbazen. Once you get the Valbazen, give her 1/2ml orally, then again in 10 days, use a syringe without a needle to dose her orally. Pull the hens wattles down and her mouth will open. Use the pre-loaded syringe to administer the wormer and let go of her wattles right away so she can swallow the liquid. If you dont, she might aspirate.

You may or may not see worms excreted if feces after the initial dosing. They will be dead or dying if you see them, otherwise they will be absorbed as protein.
Wait 2 hours after worming her before feeding her. Then give her plain boiled white rice mixed with buttermilk. Buttermilk is a much better probiotic than yogurt and will coat intestinal lining. The rice will help settle her innards. Just make sure the rice has cooled down.

It would be best to worm all your birds. If one has them, the others will most likely have them as well.

I chose to worm my flock for the first time recently with valbazen. Their second (10-day) dose is tomorrow.

I am comfortable syringing meds, but found it easier to put the meds into a little bit of bread. It took two mini bread balls for each bird. Some ate it on their own; others I had to force/pop them into their beaks like pills. it was quick and efficient. Bread isn't great for them, but it sure made administering meds to a whole flock easier.

Ok thx i will keep that in mind when I get the Valbazen. I just tracked the package and it said it would be here by Friday. Do you think my baby can hold on until then? She has shown signs for about a week now. She is currently sitting in the shade around the other chickens.
