Worms in egg

Quote:
You can do a search here on BYC, using "wazine" as your keyword. I think most people discard their eggs for 2 weeks after using wazine, but you should check to be sure.

Ok, I've always wondered about this, can you incubate those eggs instead of tossing them?

I was told that someone incubated the eggs after worming rather than discarding. They had lots of deformities in the hatch. Now this is hearsay, but it is possibly the truth. Oh yes, yuk on the worms in the egg
This is a link I got here once. It takes you to a great little online book about eggs inside and out. http://www.thepoultrysite.com/publications/1/egg-quality-handbook/35/roundworms-in-eggs

Wormers and other meds are basically a poison that inhibits cellular growth, try hatching eggs where development requires lots and lots of cellular growth, and you'll end up defects and deformed chicks. Doesn't kill the chicken to worm, but does kill the worms because the worms have a much higher metaboilc rate. Enough wormer to a chicken, and the worms and chicken will end up dead.

Wazine = Piperazine so "withdrawal periods of two to three weeks should be ample to assure depletion of drug related residues to below levels of concern"

plus they use it to treat people for worms so it's not toxic to us at low levels...I've use piperazine before and waited 2 weeks from the second dose...so give once, then again in 7 days, wait 2 weeks, then keep the eggs...mine liked it in mushed up banana

have fun wormin'!

I am glad someone posted this. It's always good to learn something new.

Worms in humans are common. More common than you might think.

OH and btw don't eat fish then if you don't like worms. Most fish have worms. Especially cod fish. You people gross out way too easy.

Do you need to worm chickens each year or just when you notice something? New and wasn't aware I would need to worm chickens? My vet just lives a few houses down so could get it done or do you do it yourself?
