I found it under the wing area. We checked them all over but gave the wing and vent areas extra attention. Any idea what this little critter is? I've been googling photos to try and identify now I'm wondering if it's a lice?
Of course you can use my photo, not a problem at all. All the best with your website. I'll be sure to check it out![]()
Thanks for the use of your photo!Would you like me to put your name on the photo or would you like to be anonymous?
I would guess from the looks of your chicken's skin (looks clean, no obvious debris or nits) that it was a passer by and that your chicken is not infested. However, I believe it is a louse.
Although avian lice can bite humans, they can not live on humans (they eat and reproduce via the outer layer of the chickens' skin and feather shafts).
Are the 'things' moving? Get out a magnifying glass and take a good look.New day, new questioni just collected the eggs for the day and noticed the tiniest little 'things' on one of the eggs. They are so small so I'm wondering if it's anything. I checked 'mites on chicken eggs' in google and they seemed bigger. I think (and hope) it's nothing but would love a second opinion!

External application of garlic and essential oils might help deter pests, but if you have an infestation it's highly unlikely that it would eradicate them. Beware that essential oils (and the garlic for that matter) may make the air unpleasant, and possibly harmful, to breathe for the birds (and the keeper). Birds have very sensitive respiratory systems. Same goes for feeding garlic, it can be toxic and cause anemia, should be used infrequently and in small amounts.View attachment 1194374 I use the recipe in the picture to treat my chickens.
If they were moving they are almost certainly mites.New day, new questioni just collected the eggs for the day and noticed the tiniest little 'things' on one of the eggs.
