Worms

I've been watching, ' The Amazing Dr. Pol' since I haven't been able to work for the past month. Not sure what from the show made me ask my self, "Should I worm my chickens, ever?"

Some people never worm their chickens and some worm theirs quite a bit. It's kinda a big debate and depends on your climate and where you stand on the issue. Me personally I'm somewhere in the middle.

If you have bonafide evidence of worms, then I would. But I have had chickens for 15 years and never done it. I do think certain areas are apt to be more prone, and probably chicken set ups too.

I've never wormed chickens in my entire life... Until this week. Found a large roundworm in a dropping while picking out the run.

Well, two of the 3 gasp for air when they are eating and kind of stretch their neck. Not sure if that's sign of gape worms.

Id say they are adjusting their crops when they do that.

Have fecals run at your veterinarian's, and then act if necessary.
As mentioned, some properties have intestinal parasite issues annually, and others seldom, if ever. Giving wormers for no reason isn't helpful! And, different intestinal parasites need different products, or fenbendazole for a different number of days at once. Information is better than running blind!

Do you know if them eating earth worms contribute to them getting round worms or any other type? My husband has been feeding our 5 week old chicks worms ...

They roam my backyard all day, no telling what they eat.
