Didn't think about that. It very well could be because I feed mine oyster shell on the side and yes they are smooth and polished looking.

I offer it on the side too. I can't recall ever seeing those in what my roosters left behind, not that I followed them around all the time, but I have noticed it in multiple hen samplings - usually my best layers that consume the most oyster shell.

Were the little white rocks wiggling? If so those are tapeworms.

Does fenbendazole treat tapeworms? I know it does for capillary worms and gapeworms if given 3-5 days in a row but I don't show tapeworms.

Praziquentel is the wormer of choice for tapes. Use horse paste, about pea size, per bird.

Sounds like tapeworms

That is what I thought from the description. If you really suspect worms, I would put on gloves if you might come into contact with any poo, then wash with lots of soap and water.

Equimax equine paste wormer will take care of tapeworms. I usually treat once initially, then once again in 10 days.
