I was thinking that the brown one was a hen but the white one was getting red combs and I was not sure how can u tell?

I tell by past experience. I have had pullets that redden up early, especially leghorns. 2 pullets!

Her feathering screams pullet to me. Some breed will develop their combs earlier than others too.
